I repeat, this isn't happening. But, it's a thought experiment I always love to run through. If the Warriors wanted to blow the team up what would be the best way to go about it? I'm not talking a 76ers "Trust the Process" level sell-off. But, here's the thing for the Warriors. If they do not plan on offering Draymond Green a max-contract when he becomes a free-agent next season, they should trade him now. If that's the case, the team is not making a deep-run in the postseason and Andre Igoudala isn't worth it either. Making both of them pieces I would move.
The Warriors could still try to bring back Thompson and Durant, although they'd both probably be less likely to stay. But, a reckoning will come in Golden State. To acquire assets, they'll have to give up a player of value and that won't be popular. If they wait to long, they may not have anyone of value left. Just look at Golden State's soon to be neighbors in San Francisco. The Giants doubled-down on an aging-core and could only remain competitive for so long. Furthermore, the salary cap structure of the NBA will make it even harder to the Warriors to improve their roster. Here's the fit: Charlotte. A package of Green and Igoudala would give them some great pieces that could also help to entice Kemba Walker to stay. Furthermore, I would take back Nicolas Batum's albatross contract. That's giving up and taking a lot, but I would want a lot of assets in return. Malik Monk and Miles Bridges are both wing-lottery picks that have flashed potential. On top of that, I would want the 12th pick in the draft, a future unprotected first round pick, and another either pick swap or pair of first round picks. It would be a gamble. It wouldn't be popular, especially right before moving into a new arena. However, it would give the Warriors a youth infusion that will be necessary to extend their run.

About MeI have been a die-hard fan of the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Golden State Warriors my entire life. Following them (and the surrounding leagues) have given me a lot of strong opinions on sports. Links to some of Marc's Articles around the Web:
